Just because I’m older doesn’t mean I depreciate, I’m not a car and I’m not old. Do you think your old? At what age do you think constitutes being old? Like I said, just because I’m older doesn’t mean I’m old. Whew…got that off my chest and now I feel better. I was talking with a couple girlfriends the other day about our kickboxing class. I was saying that I was having some trouble getting through the class, it was hard. Then I look over at the ‘thirty somethings’ and I’m thinking ‘no way in hell will you finish this class and I won’t’! I wasn’t the only one who was thinking that my friend was too. We both finished the class, exhausted but finished. Nope, not old, just tired. I challenge anyone to try Carol’s Kickboxing class. We’ll talk after, if you last that long (haha).
I was talking with my sister yesterday about my age. She thought I was 53 this year going on 54. I love her, she’s my favourite. Apparently neither of us are very good at ‘cypherin our gazinta’s’ because I was born in 1962 so that makes me 55 this year. Ugh! I like her math better. ‘I hope I ____ like you when I’m your age’. Ever heard that one? Some women think that’s a ‘dig’ at your age like I used to. Now that I’m older I choose to take it as a compliment. I’ve lived 54 1/3 years so far and if a mean-spirited person thinks that’s an insult, they would be wrong. Don’t let other people dictate how you feel about yourself. We are told by way of newspapers, internet and television that say we basically need to take anyone over 50 and put them ‘out to pasture’. We over 50’s have a lot to offer the young ones. Experience being at the top of that list. We have lived longer, had many more experiences and hopefully gained a little wisdom and insight into what is going on around us. As a result, we can offer information to the younger ones that can possibly help them get through life a little easier than it was for us. If they would only LISTEN!
I might be older but I am definitely not old. I still feel young, that has to count for something, right? Age is just a state of mind. If you feel old, you will be old. If you feel young, you will be young. That’s it. Most evenings I am up until 10 or 10:30 depending on what’s going on the next day. I log 10,000 steps each day on my FitBit – sometimes more.
- I would be older if I ate supper at 4:00 pm and was in bed by 7:00 pm.
- I would be older if I thought my daily walk was to the mailbox and back – it’s about 150 yards.
- I might be older if I told you to turn down Led Zeppelin – no, I take that back…you NEVER turn down Led Zeppelin.
- I might be older if I told you, you were driving to fast at 50 mph.
- I might be older if my granddaughter ask me “Nana, did you have lights when you were a kid”?
One day I will be old, just not today or any day in the near future. As long as I can exercise, breathe and have fun with my husband, I will not be old. This could go on for a very, very long time and I am excited about that.
PS – If I was old I couldn’t climb all 1200 steps on Koko Crater Trail on Oahu. FYI – It’s called the “Stairway to Heaven”.
